It is widely acknowledged now that ICT has a significant role to play in improving learning and management in schools. In the early days of the National Grid for Learning, ICT was about resourcing but in the last few years the emphasis has shifted to how ICT can be used to develop all areas of school improvement. Schools are now thinking about how these new technologies can enhance their teaching and learning practices and embrace the wider community whilst lowering the burden of administration and management. Those schools that are successful in this are the ones that are achieving success in every area of their school.

Since the Ofsted ImpaCT2 study in 2002 and all other ICT and attainment studies thereafter, there is irrefutable proof that ICT helps to raise attainment. ICT also plays a key role in the Every Child Matters and Personalised Learning agendas. However achievement of these goals requires the correct development of ICT.

With all the guidance available from the DCSF, Ofsted, BECTA, NAACE, NCSL, other government bodies and suppliers, how can you make sure the ICT development decisions you are making are the correct ones?

Our Vision:

A constantly reliable ICT infrastructure is the bedrock that forms a firm foundation to enable schools to successfully integrate ICT across the curriculum to help raise attainment. Even if a small part of your ICT infrastructure is unreliable, your teaching staff will find it very hard to have confidence in using ICT as an integral tool for learning & teaching and day-to-day planning & assessment, which are key elements of the Government plans to create E-Confident schools.

During a two year feasibility study, Matrix ICT Services consulted with several Head Teachers and ICT Coordinators to establish what they wanted from an ICT technical support service. As a result of this research we launched our first Curriculum ICT Technical Services in April 2005. Since then we have continued to consult with our customers, ensuring our services constantly evolve to meet their needs.

Our Technical Services are based on the BECTA Framework for ICT Technical Support (FITS) and consist of a range of complimentary products designed to offer everything from very a basic inventory of your ICT resources right through to a fully holistic technical support service. Not every school requires our services as they all have different attitudes to ICT development and leadership. Indeed we have strict guidelines to ensure we do not work with schools if we feel our services will not make a difference.
